Shoutout Atlanta: We had the good fortune of connecting with Janae Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janae, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always wanted to be a creative person! I loved reading books and writing poetry as a child. Being creative has helped me write and publish 5books and more! I love being able to use my brain to create characters and scenarios. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. I enjoy crafting stories that people can relate to. I have always wanted to do this since I was a child. I am living my dream.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an author/writer. I love being able to use my brand to tell a story that I know people can relate to. I want to write stories that people can feel emotionally invested or attached too. “Like, hey, I can see myself in that character.” I want to entertain people and inform them as well. Bring to light issues that too many people would consider taboo.

It was not easy to start off. I had to overcome my fear of rejection and humiliation from readers. I had to develop thick skin. I have now learned to let things roll off my back. Like seriously, if you wait on things to happen they may never happen. take risks and see what happen. Don’t wait on people to support you. You may lose friends. But you’re only losing people who didn’t like you anyway. If you want it go get it.

I want people to know about my books that I like for readers to see themselves in my work. I want my readers to be emotionally invested or intrigued by my characters. If I can embark emotion then I’ve done my job.

For my boutique shop, Janae’s Closet, I want people to feel good in what they wear. the mission is to build self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-awareness. We stand for FLY urban apparel. The Fly stands for, First Love Yourself. Because it’s more important to love yourself first. You make the clothes, the clothes don’t make you!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would go to the Golden 1 Center for several events such as basketball games and other concerts. Possibly the Crocker Art Museum for art galleries. Arden Fair mall for shopping and a few spots to eat such as, The Cheesecake factory, The Olive Garden., etc. I’d also like to do a few concerts in the park if those are going on. I like doing art/creative activities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my daughter. She is the reason that I keep going in life! She inspires me to keep pursuing my goals and dreams.
